Last Monday I went out for an epic down wind run from Flinders to Pt Leo.
The night before the swell was at an all time high with a maximum wave reading of almost 9m with a S SW wind predicted at around 40knots. All the signs were there that the run DJ and I were planning was going to be epic.
We got down to Point Leo at around 10am and did the car swap thing. Our course today was only a 7km run and thankfully the swell had dropped to around 3m and the wind was probably blowing at around 25 knots. It was low tide and decided to come in between Suicide and second reef as I didn’t fancy a rock landing.
The large swell was pushing more into shore, while the wind was pushing us more straight which made the paddle quite hard work. I did however manage to get one good photo of DJ on a rather large runner.
The adventure took us about 2 hours, we were taking it easy and landing at Point Leo was interesting to say the least. We both got smashed. It was a great way to Spend a Monday morning.
